After a marriage ends

Questions to take to a lawyer.

Not answers. Not legal advice. myAQ is a dating home, not a law firm.

Are you safe tonight?

If you or a child is in danger, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233. 988 is the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. A dating site is not the place to handle that.

Do you already have a lawyer where the life actually is?

Divorce, parenting time, and orders are state-specific. Ask for someone licensed in the state where the marriage, the house, or the child actually is — not a chatbot, and not a stranger on the internet.

What should next year of the week look like?

Write the week as it is: pickup, school nights, who is there on Tuesday. Do not put a child's name, school, or photo on this site. Bring the week to a lawyer as facts, not as a legal theory.

What papers can you actually put on a table?

A first consult goes further if you bring what you have: the marriage certificate, tax returns, account statements, any existing orders, a simple list of debts and places you live. Missing papers are normal. Inventing them is not.

Name, gender marker, the marriage — ask which is which.

In many places these are different processes. Do not let a website tell you they are the same. Ask a lawyer licensed where you live what has to happen, in what order, and what can wait.

What do you want a partner for — and what must stay off a first date?

Love the chicken, not how the chicken makes you feel. A serious partner is not a co-parent you collected, a vacancy, or a lawyer substitute. The legal history can stay with the lawyer until it is time.

Places that can point you to a person

The household notebook on myAQ is for the week — calendar, receipts, a log. Matches never see it. It is not a court system.
